South Indian chicken gravy

Seeli ma chicken gravy

Ingredients:

Chicken   - 1/2  kg
Small onion   100 gm
Tomato    -1
Garlic   - 4 big pods
Ginger   - 1 "
Green chillies    -  3 ( slit )
Coconut   - less than 1/2 coconut (grated )
Cashew   -  6
Cinnamon stick    - 1/2 "
Cloves    - 2
Cardamom   - 1
Curry leaves    -  25
Coriander leaves   small bunch
Fennel seed  ( sombu )  1 tbsp
Jeera     - 1 tsp
Pepper corn  - 6
Dry red chillie    - 4
Turmeric powder   - 1/4 tsp
Whole dhaniya seed    - 1 tbsp
Oil    - 4 tbsp
Salt to taste

Method:


  • In a pan add 1 tbsp oil wait till the oil gets heated, into it goes cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom, fennel seed, jeera, pepper corns, small onions, ginger, garlic,dry red chillies,Whole dhaniya seed, grated coconut, cashew and fry these ingredients lightly for approximately 1 - 2 min. Let it cool. 
  • Put the fried ingredients and the tomato into a mixie jar and grind it into a fine paste.
  • In a non-stick vessel add oil once the oil is heated add green chillies and curry leaves ( do not stand very near oil may splash on your face )when it start to splatter add the ground masalas,turmeric powder mix well and let it cook for 5-7 min.
  • Now add the chicken to the frying masala add salt to your taste. Add 1-1/2 to 2 cups of water cover the vessel. Leave it to cook for 20 min or till the chicken is tender.Add coriander leaves mix well. 
  • Seeli ma chicken gravy is ready to serve.It goes very well with chapati, rice and idly.
