South Indian special


chicken and vegetable stew

Ingredients:

Chicken   - 1/ 2 kg ( skinned & cut )
Onion    - 1 small ( chopped )
Tomatoes    - 2 
Green chillies    8-9
Potato   - 1 big (cubed )
Carrot     -1 ( cubed )
Beans    - 10 ( devain ) cut 1" length
Coconut   - 1/2 ( grated )
Fried Bengal gram split ( pottu kadalai )  -4 tbsp
Coriander leaves ( garnish )
Turmeric powder   - 1/4 tsp
Cinnamon stick   - 1 "
Cloves   -  4 
Bay leaf  - 1
Oil    - 1-1/2 tbsp
salt to taste

Method:

  • Grind grated coconut, tomatoes,green chillies and fried Bengal gram (pottu kadalai) into a fine paste.Keep aside.
  • In a heavy bottomed vessel add washed chicken, turmeric powder, salt and cook for 10 min in low fire.when the chicken is half done add potato, carrot, beans and the ground paste add water let it cook for another 10 -15 min or till the chicken is tender.
  • In a small pan add oil wait for a while for the oil to get heated add cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf,chopped onion fry till the onion turns brown.Add it to the stew.Mix well.
  • Add coriander leaves and serve hot.This goes well with white rice, chapati, idly & dosa.
